Russian troops are currently actively advancing from the eastern side of the Pokrovsk agglomeration and are attempting to seize the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka road, which runs east of the city. This was reported by the spokesman for the Khortytsia operational and strategic grouping of troops, Viktor Tregubov, on television.
“They are now coming from the eastern side of the agglomeration and are moving with great force just beyond this road… It gives them two opportunities if they move farther north,” Tregubov said.
In particular, we are talking about:
- an attempt to bypass Pokrovsk from the east;
- access to Kostyantynivka with further encirclement of the town from the west.
Both scenarios, according to the spokesman, pose operational threats to Ukrainian forces and give the enemy a chance to advance further north. That is why, Tregubov stressed, it is important to prevent Russian troops from gaining a foothold in new positions and disrupting our defence.
Russia’s offensive in the Pokrovsk sector in recent days has been one of the largest along the entire frontline. According to the General Staff, 47 attacks were repelled in this sector on 8 June alone.
