This heating season, Ukraine has faced unprecedented challenges due to sophisticated attacks on its energy infrastructure. Russian troops are using all types of weapons, including ballistic missiles and cluster munitions, which cause serious damage and make it difficult to restore facilities.

According to Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko during the Government Question Time, since 17 November this season, Ukraine has suffered 900 missile and drone strikes out of 1,750 attacks over the entire last year.

“The enemy is massively using ballistic weapons to strike the power system and weapons with cluster munitions, which causes much more damage. This greatly complicates the restoration,” said Halushchenko.

The minister added that despite the difficult situation, gas supply in the country remains stable. At the same time, he refrained from commenting on the consequences of the latest attacks on the gas infrastructure on 15 January, noting that experts are making every effort to provide consumers with energy.

Last year, Ukraine’s energy system was severely tested by large-scale shelling, but thanks to prompt action, it was able to maintain its power supply. Experts warn that this year’s season will be even more challenging due to the use of modern weapons by Russia.
