Russian drones attack Ukraine: houses in Kharkiv, Sumy and Cherkasy regions damaged

On the night of 9 January, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Ukraine, launching 70 Shahed attack drones and simulator drones. The operation took place from the directions of Russian cities: Millerovo, Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on its Telegram channel.

Ukrainian air defence response

The Ukrainian Air Force reports that as of 9:00 am, 46 drones have been successfully shot down in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Dnipro and Mykolaiv regions.

In addition, 24 imitator drones were destroyed, which did not cause any serious consequences.

Damage caused by falling debris

Despite the high level of defence effectiveness, the debris from the downed drones caused damage to private homes in several regions, including Kharkiv, Sumy and Cherkasy. Details on the number of casualties are to be confirmed.
