Fierce fighting continues in the Toretsk sector. Ukraine’s defence forces have recently regained previously lost positions near the city, but the Russian invaders continue to attack and have localised successes near Toretsk, Chasovyi Yar and Kurakhove. This is stated in a recent report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Ukrainian breakthrough
Geo-location data from 26 January indicates that the Ukrainian armed forces advanced northwest of Toretsk, regaining control of important sections of the frontline.
Russian advance
At the same time, according to ISW, on 27 January, Russian troops made a breakthrough near the Toretsk mine, located in the north of the city. The invaders also intensified attacks in the areas of Diliyivka, Krymske and Shcherbynivka.
The fighting continues with high intensity, analysts say. Ukrainian forces are focused on holding back the enemy and strengthening previously retaken positions. The Russian side continues to use artillery and active infantry to increase pressure in this area
