Russians tried to break through defences in Novopavlivka sector: situation at the front on 16 January

Over the past 24 hours, on 16 January, Russian troops fought 141 battles in various sectors of the frontline. The most intense attacks were recorded in the Pokrovsk sector, where Ukrainian forces repelled 53 breakthrough attempts. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on its Facebook page.

The main events at the frontlines:

  • Kharkiv sector: Russian forces did not conduct active operations.
  • In theKupyansk sector, there were eight combat engagements in the areas of Petropavlivka, Holubivka, Zahryzove and Pishchane.
  • Inthe Liman sector, 13 attacks were repelled, including near Kopanky, Novosergiyivka, Hrekivka, Zelenyi Hai and Makiivka.
  • Northern sector: the enemy attacked 5 times near Bilohorivka, Verkhnekamianske and Ivan-Darivka.
  • Kramatorsk sector: 7 attacks were recorded near Pryvillia, Bila Hora, Hryhorivka and Chasovyi Yar.
  • Toretsk sector: 14 attacks were repelled.
  • Pokrovsk sector: the most active area – Ukrainian troops repelled 53 attacks, the enemy tried to break through the defences near Zelene Pole, Yelizavetivka, Myroliubivka, Vodiane Druha and other localities.
  • Novopavlivka direction: Russians tried to break through the defensive lines 11 times.
  • Orikhivske sector: the enemy unsuccessfully attacked Novodanylivka.
  • Prydniprovskyi sector: 4 attempts to seize Ukrainian positions were repelled.
  • Kursk sector: the enemy made 20 attacks.

Ukraine’s defence forces continue to hold the line, effectively repelling enemy attacks and holding strategic positions.
