The Security Service of Ukraine has shown exclusive footage of the exchange of Ukrainian prisoners of war and the repatriation of the bodies of fallen defenders, which took place on 14 June. This was reported by the SBU press service.

“The life of every Ukrainian is the highest value,” the ministry said, stressing the importance of returning Ukrainian soldiers home.

The operation to return the prisoners of war was made possible through joint efforts:

  • The Joint Centre for the Coordination of the Search and Release of Prisoners of War under the SBU,
  • Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War,
  • The Armed Forces of Ukraine,
  • MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS,
  • Office of the Ombudsman,
  • Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons,
  • The State Emergency Service, the State Border Guard Service and other law enforcement agencies.

As part of the operation, the bodies of fallen soldiers were also recovered and will be delivered to the relevant institutions in the regions of Ukraine. Specialised Ukrzaliznytsia wagons were used for the transport, which allows for fast identification.

The SBU thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance in repatriation measures and compliance with humanitarian law.

The video captures the touching moments of the soldiers returning home – wounded, after years of captivity, but alive. The Ukrainian soldiers are met by their comrades-in-arms, medics and relatives.
