The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) on Thursday morning confirmed the death of Sergeant Ariel Sosnov, a 20-year-old soldier from Jerusalem. Sergeant Sosnov, who served in the 605th Engineer Battalion of the 188th Barak Brigade, was killed in action in the north of the country on Tuesday, The Jerusalem Post reported.
In connection with his death, the command decided to posthumously promote him from corporal to sergeant in recognition of his dedication and heroism.
In addition, the IDF reported another serious incident: on Wednesday, a soldier from the 90th Nahshon Battalion of the Kfir Brigade was seriously wounded in the northern Gaza Strip. The injured soldier was evacuated to hospital, where he is receiving the necessary medical treatment.
Since the beginning of hostilities on 7 October last year, the number of Israeli military deaths has reached 780.
