Ukrainian troops continue to actively confront the Russian army in the Kursk region, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. According to the Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, posted on his Facebook page on 6 November, Russian losses in the three months of fighting in this area have amounted to more than 20,000 people.

“As of 5 November, the enemy’s losses in personnel in the Kursk sector amounted to 20,842, of which 7,905 were killed, 12,220 were wounded, and 717 were captured,” Syrsky wrote.

In addition to significant losses in manpower, the Russian army suffered serious losses in equipment. 1101 weapons were destroyed, including 54 tanks, 276 armoured combat vehicles, 107 cannons and mortars, 5 multiple launch rocket systems and 659 vehicles.

According to Syrsky, Russian troops have deployed about 45,000 troops in the Kursk region and are trying to increase their numbers by attracting foreign forces. “Russia’s own troops are not enough in this area, so they are trying to attract troops from North Korea,” the commander-in-chief stressed.

Syrsky also noted that the Russian side sought to seize more territory in northern Ukraine within the Sumy region, which would have continued their attempts to gain a foothold in the Kharkiv sector. That is why the Ukrainian Armed Forces decided to conduct an offensive in the Kursk region in order to move the fighting to enemy territory.

About 2,000 Ukrainian servicemen who demonstrated high professionalism and dedication in performing combat missions were awarded state decorations for their heroism during the operation.
