The administration of US President Donald Trump has decided to temporarily suspend all military aid to Ukraine to force Kyiv to demonstrate its readiness to peacefully resolve the conflict. Bloomberg reports this with reference to a senior US Department of Defence official.

“President Donald Trump has ordered the suspension of all military aid to Ukraine, increasing pressure on Volodymyr Zelenskyy just days after an Oval Office row with Ukraine’s president cast doubt on the support of its most important ally,” the newspaper notes.

According to a Pentagon spokesman, the US will not provide Kyiv with weapons and financial support until Trump decides that the Ukrainian leadership demonstrates a “good faith commitment” to peace. This decision was an unexpected turn in the policy of Washington, which had previously been one of the main donors of military aid to Ukraine.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the United States has provided Kyiv with billions of dollars in weapons, ammunition and military equipment. Recently, however, the White House has been increasingly calling for a review of this support and the search for diplomatic solutions to the conflict.

It remains to be seen how Ukraine and its allies in Europe will react. Diplomats and experts warn that the suspension of aid could significantly affect the course of the fighting and increase pressure on Kyiv in the context of potential peace talks with Moscow.
