President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law ratifying the Agreement on Ukraine’s participation in the Interreg Europe 2021-2027 programme. The decision is a strategic step towards integration into the European cooperation space and access to EU funding for regional development.
This was reported by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada on Telegram.
“The ratification of the Agreement is an important step towards strengthening interregional cooperation and increasing the volume of international technical assistance to Ukraine. It opens up the possibility of Ukraine’s full participation in the Interreg VI-C programme,” the statement said.
The Interreg Europe 2021-2027 programme covers all 27 EU Member States, as well as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland and Ukraine. Its main goal is to develop joint projects aimed at:
- Building a smarter Europe (innovation, digitalisation, support for small businesses),
- green transformation,
- social cohesion,
- regional integration,
- better governance at the local level.
Ukrainian regions can now participate in international projects, receive funding for infrastructure development, environmental initiatives, digitalisation, education, etc. This will also facilitate the exchange of experience with European partners and help bring Ukraine’s regional policy closer to EU standards.
