On the night of 20 May, Russia carried out one of the largest drone attacks in recent weeks: out of 108 attack drones launched by the enemy at Ukraine, air defence forces destroyed 93. This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force.

The attack began around 19:00 on 19 May and lasted until Tuesday morning. The aggressor launched Shaheds and other imitation drones from the directions of Bryansk, Shatalovo, Orel, Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. Aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare (EW) units, mobile fire groups and unmanned systems of the Defence Forces took part in repelling the air attack.

According to the updated data, 35 drones were shot down by firepower, and another 58 lost communication or were jammed by electronic warfare, making it impossible for them to achieve their goals.

The consequences of the attack were recorded in four regions: Donetsk, Dnipro, Sumy and Zhytomyr regions. The damage and possible casualties are still being investigated.

The massive strike was another attempt by Russia to deplete Ukraine’s air defences and damage critical infrastructure, but most of the drones were destroyed before they reached their targets.
