The Ukrainian military has captured a North Korean soldier for the first time during hostilities in the Kursk region of Russia. This information was confirmed by South Korea’s National Intelligence Service.

According to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, soldiers of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine captured a wounded North Korean soldier. This was the first recorded case of DPRK soldiers participating in hostilities on the side of Russia.

Details of the incident

According to intelligence reports, the DPRK soldier was captured during an operation in the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine. Information on the condition of the prisoner, his role in the hostilities and the circumstances of his stay in Russia has not yet been disclosed.

Experts suggest that this case may be evidence of Pyongyang’s cooperation with Moscow in the context of the war in Ukraine. Earlier, there were reports that the DPRK could supply ammunition and military equipment to Russia.

Representatives of South Korea called on the international community to closely monitor any signs of DPRK interference in the conflict in Ukraine and to increase pressure on Pyongyang for violating international sanctions.

North Korea is one of the few countries supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine. Western countries have repeatedly expressed concern about the possibility of North Korean forces taking part in this conflict.

This incident may become a pretext for new international measures against the DPRK and Russia.
