The Ukrainian military launched a powerful strike on the command post of Russian troops in the Kursk region, which resulted in the deaths of officers of the Russian and DPRK armies. Following this operation, the Ukrainian Defence Forces launched an active offensive. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Reuters on 8 February.
“Before advancing 2.5 kilometres, our troops hit a command post in the Kursk region. A significant number of enemy officers were killed there, including senior military officers from Russia and North Korea,” Zelenskyy said.
Command post destroyed: what is known about enemy losses
According to the president, the strike killed at least 20 officers of the occupation forces. In addition to the Russians, the dead also include representatives of the DPRK, who were probably on positions as part of military cooperation with the Kremlin.
This is another blow to Russia’s military infrastructure, which complicates the control of enemy units and disorganises the occupation forces.
Ukrainian troops go on the offensive
After a successful attack on the command post, the Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced. The operation was part of an overall counter-offensive strategy aimed at destroying the logistics and command centres of the Russian army.
Zelenskyy stressed that such strikes significantly weaken the enemy’s combat capabilities, especially in regions where Russians are trying to concentrate forces for further offensive actions.
The Ukrainian military and intelligence continue to work to inflict maximum losses on the Russian invaders and their allies involved in the war against Ukraine
