Over the past day, the Ukrainian military demonstrated extraordinary resilience, repelling 168 attacks by Russian invaders in various parts of the frontline. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a morning briefing on 31 December.
Key areas of confrontation:
- Kharkiv sector: two hostile attacks near Vovchansk and Lypky were successfully stopped.
- Kupianske sector: 16 attempts by the occupants to break through the defences were recorded.
- Inthe Liman sector, the enemy carried out 22 attacks near Kopanky, Nadiya, Novoyehorivka, Makiivka, Ivanivka and Terny.
- In the northernsector, the enemy conducted one assault in the area of Bilohorivka, which resulted in its defeat.
The fiercest fighting took place in the Pokrovsk sector yesterday, where Ukrainian troops stopped 40 assault and offensive attacks. The enemy attempted to break through in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Myroliubivka, Prominnya, Zelene, Dachenske, Novyi Trud, Shevchenko, Vovkove, Novooleksandrivka and Novoolezavetivka.
Other areas:
- Kurakhove: 21 attacks were repelled, the main enemy’s efforts were concentrated near Petropavlivka, Slovianka, Shevchenko and Kurakhove.
- Vremivske: 17 assaults near Yantarne, Uspenivka, Vremivka, Kostiantynopil and Novosilka.
- Orikhivske and Prydniprovskyi directions: the enemy suffered losses during unsuccessful attempts to advance near Novoandriivka and attack the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Results of the Ukrainian Armed Forces counter-offensive:
Ukrainian aviation carried out four strikes on Russian troop concentration areas, ammunition depots and six important enemy targets. Missile forces and artillery continue to effectively destroy the occupiers’ resources.
Context:
Despite significant losses, the Russian army continues its offensive in key areas, but faces strong resistance from Ukrainian forces. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasises that Ukraine’s defenders are holding their ground and continue to fight for the country’s freedom.
