The largest drone attack in recent weeks: Russia launched 145 attack UAVs and one ballistic missile from occupied Crimea. Ukrainian defenders repelled the air attack from four directions.
On the night of Wednesday, 14 May, Russia launched a massive air attack on Ukraine, using an Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missile from the temporarily occupied Crimea and 145 Shahed attack drones and simulated targets from the directions of Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Shatalovo, Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Telegram.
The air force, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare (EW) units and mobile fire groups provided air defence.
According to official data as of 09:00 on 14 May:
- 80 enemy drones were shot down in eastern, northern, western and central Ukraine;
- 42 simulation drones were lost in the area, but without negative consequences;
- The consequences of shelling were recorded in Sumy, Kharkiv, Odesa, Donetsk and Kirovohrad regions.
This is one of the most powerful drone attacks in recent weeks, indicating that Russia is attempting to deplete Ukraine’s air defence system ahead of expected decisions on Western aid.
