Ukraine is actively developing its own missile industry, which not only strengthens its defence capabilities but also creates a deterrent for the enemy. In an op-ed for LB, Defence Minister Rustem Umerov stressed the importance of international cooperation and the introduction of foreign technologies into domestic production, which allows Ukraine to act more autonomously on the battlefield.
“Ukrainian cruise and ballistic missiles provide our Armed Forces with the ability to carry out precision strikes on critical enemy targets, which significantly strengthens our defence and creates an effective system of deterring the aggressor,” the minister said.
Cooperation with Italy and Belgium: new opportunities for Ukraine
Umerov focused on Ukraine’s integration into the European defence industry. Joint projects with Italy and Belgium not only contribute to the localisation of production, but also allow Ukraine to access advanced defence technologies.
“The joint programme with Italy involves Ukrainian producers in expanding production capacities, and the project with Belgium is aimed at localising the production of anti-aircraft systems and missiles in Ukraine. This opens up new horizons for the modernisation of the defence industry,” the minister added.
Private enterprises: new achievements and start-ups
In his column, Umerov emphasised that private enterprises are also showing significant results in rocketry. One example is the Palianytsia missile developed by a start-up, which has already entered mass production thanks to the support of the Ministry of Defence.
“This demonstrates the high ability of the private sector to contribute to strengthening the country’s defence capabilities. Together with government initiatives, we are creating innovative solutions for future military operations,” he stressed.
The first 100 rockets: a breakthrough in production
This year, Ukraine produced the first 100 missiles, including upgraded R-360 cruise missiles of the Neptune complex. These missiles now have an extended range. Thanks to the coordinated work of the Ministry of Defence, both state-owned and private companies, Ukraine has managed to make a breakthrough in missile construction.
“We are actively working to improve the missile programme and accelerate structural changes to make the management of this programme more efficient. The creation of a new department to support missile projects is a step towards providing modern weapons for the Ukrainian military,” Umerov said.
The future of defence: technological breakthrough and independence
Thanks to reforms and modernisation, Ukrainian missiles will not only increase the effectiveness of the Armed Forces in today’s battles, but will also become the basis for building a strong and independent defence in the future.
“This is not only a matter of war, it is about independence, self-sufficiency and a technological breakthrough that guarantees the security of our country. Ukrainian missiles are a guarantee of deterring any aggression,” the Defence Minister concluded.
