A nighttime attack by Ukrainian drones on a chemical plant in the city of Aleksin, Tula region of Russia, damaged the production facilities for the manufacture of gunpowder, causing the plant to temporarily shut down. According to Ukrayinska Pravda, citing sources, at least 13 drones flew over the plant during the attack, causing serious damage. Emissions from the gunpowder shop caused orange smoke to be visible in the air around the plant.

At around 13:10, an additional explosion occurred, which, according to sources, was the result of a chemical fire that occurred after the drone strikes. A 110kV power line at the Aleksinskaya TPP was also reportedly damaged.

The attack on the chemical plant, according to Ukrainska Pravda and Reuters, is part of Ukraine’s broader strategy to limit Russia’s military capabilities. The choice of targets includes facilities involved in supplying the Russian military. “Such attacks reduce Russia’s ability to carry out aggressive actions and terrorise our country,” a source in the SBU said.

The Russian Ministry of Defence said that its military had shot down 50 Ukrainian drones during nighttime attacks in seven regions of the country. Meanwhile, Russian troops continue their offensive in eastern Ukraine, particularly in the Donetsk region, destroying settlements with guided bombs and artillery.
