About 200 Chinese citizens are fighting as mercenaries on the side of the Russian occupiers in the war against Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources familiar with Western intelligence.
According to a former employee of one of the Western intelligence services, these Chinese mercenaries operate without official connection with the Chinese government. At the same time, there are also Chinese military officers in the rear areas on the Russian side – but with Beijing’s approval. Their goal is to study the tactics and combat experience that Russia is gaining during a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This information has once again heightened concerns about China’s covert involvement in the conflict and possible military and strategic cooperation between Moscow and Beijing.
