President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed an urgent meeting with senior military leaders regarding the missile attack by Russian troops on a training unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Dnipro region. He announced this in his evening address.
The Head of State expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the fallen servicemen and stressed the critical importance of saving every Ukrainian life. Zelenskyy noted that this was not the first attack on the Ukrainian military during training: “Ukraine has lost its people again. I have appointed a meeting with key commanders and the Minister of Defence as soon as he returns from talks in Istanbul to find out exactly what happened.”
The meeting will be attended by the Commander of the Land Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mykhailo Drapaty, Commander of the Tavria Operational and Strategic Group, General Andriy Hnatov, and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.
“Every soldier today is worth its weight in gold. All decisions to save lives will be made. We must guarantee maximum protection for our military even in the rear,” the President stressed.
This tragedy once again raises the issue of safety at training grounds and increases public demand for public accountability and the effectiveness of the air defence system, especially in regions that are regularly shelled by the Russian army.
