President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a conversation with Defence Minister Rustem Umerov on further actions to free Ukrainian prisoners of war from Russian captivity. He said this in his evening address.
The Head of State emphasised that the issue of liberation of defenders remained one of the main issues on the agenda and required concrete and decisive actions.
“I set very specific tasks. We also discussed in detail the possibility of further diplomatic steps and what exactly should be provided for the negotiation process,” the President said.
According to Zelenskyy, the state is working to ensure that every Ukrainian defender in captivity is returned home, and all possible diplomatic and military intelligence resources are being used to do so.
Several effective prisoner exchanges between Ukraine and Russia have recently taken place, but according to official figures, thousands of Ukrainian military and civilians, including Azovstal workers, medics and volunteers, are still held captive by the enemy.
The President stresses that the release of prisoners is not only a matter of humanity, but also of national dignity.
