The aggressor state of Russia has begun to involve the North Korean military in assault operations in the Kursk region. In particular, they are used as part of the combined units of the marines and airborne troops of the Russian Armed Forces. This was reported by the Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine.(DIU)
First losses: successes of the Ukrainian Defence Forces
According to the DIU, DPRK army units have already suffered their first sanitary and irreversible losses due to effective fire strikes by Ukrainian defenders. At one of the positions in the Kursk region, enemy personnel were effectively hit by FPV drones.
As of 14 December 2024, the total losses of Russian and North Korean military units manned by North Korea amounted to about 200 people.
Language barrier and “friendly fire”
The use of DPRK military personnel in combat operations is accompanied by serious problems with management due to the language barrier. The inability to coordinate actions resulted in North Korean soldiers opening “friendly fire” on the vehicles of the so-called Akhmat battalion. Eight Kadyrovites were killed in the incident.
Special security measures
There are currently about 11,000 DPRK army servicemen on the territory of Russia. The aggressor state has introduced a strict counterintelligence regime in the places of their deployment. The FSS conducts thorough checks of Russian military personnel who have access to these areas, seizing phones and other means of communication to prevent information leakage.
The involvement of the DPRK in hostilities on the territory of Russia not only indicates a critical situation in the Russian army, but also creates additional risks due to shortcomings in management. Despite attempts to strengthen its positions, the enemy suffers significant losses due to the skill of the Ukrainian Security and Defence Forces.
