As part of the ongoing humanitarian effort to support the civilian population of the Gaza Strip, 1,000 units of blood were transferred through the Erez West crossing to A-Sahaba Hospital. This happened on Monday after a thorough check at the Kerem Shalom crossing, which demonstrates the high level of security and cooperation with international organisations. This was reported by TimeUkraineIsrael with reference to the IDF press service.
This important humanitarian action was organised as part of the efforts of the Coordinating Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (COGAT), which oversees and coordinates all humanitarian operations in Gaza with the support of international partners. The blood donations will provide essential assistance in surgeries and ongoing treatment, as well as contribute to the sustainability of hospitals, which are crucial to the health and safety of Gazans.
Supporting healthcare initiatives
This blood drive is part of a broader initiative to provide medical supplies to the civilian population of Gaza. Since the outbreak of hostilities, the Israeli army, through COGAT, has organised the delivery of more than 2,800 trucks of medical and hygiene supplies, amounting to more than 28,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid. In addition, 14 field hospitals have been deployed to provide urgent medical care, working in close cooperation with international organisations.
Continuation of humanitarian aid
The Israel Defense Forces, through COGAT, will continue to act within the framework of international law, and will continue to provide humanitarian support to civilians in Gaza, including in the medical field. Israel remains committed to the principles of humanitarian assistance, in particular in the context of military conflict, when every act of support is crucial to preserving the lives and health of civilians.
It is important to note that this humanitarian mission not only provides vital medical resources, but also demonstrates Israel’s ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of the civilian population in Gaza, despite the difficult situation on the ground.
