Israeli special forces conduct raids in southern Lebanon, preparing for oossible ground invasion

Israeli special forces are conducting targeted raids in southern Lebanon, gathering intelligence and carrying out reconnaissance operations as part of preparations for a potential ground invasion, which could begin as early as this week. Sources familiar with the situation told The Wall Street Journal that during these operations, soldiers are infiltrating tunnels belonging to Hezbollah militants along the Lebanon-Israel border. These raids have taken place both in recent days and over the past few months.

According to the sources, these actions are part of Israel’s broader strategy to weaken Hezbollah’s military capabilities along the border with Lebanon. However, the timing of ground operations could be influenced by pressure from the United States, which seeks to prevent a large-scale invasion. The exact plans of Israel remain unclear, including how long Tel Aviv might hold territory or whether the operation will involve a series of large-scale raids.

Amir Avivi, a former senior Israeli military officer, noted that a ground invasion is inevitable, and the current raids are part of preparatory actions. According to him, the IDF is actively preparing for possible ground operations, with special units playing a key role.

Escalation in the Middle East

In recent weeks, skirmishes between Israel and militants from the Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah have intensified. On Sunday, Hezbollah militants fired at northern areas of Israel, to which the IDF responded by destroying the rocket launcher used in the attack.

On Saturday, the Israeli army carried out a massive strike on Lebanese territory, reportedly killing Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The United States is urging Israel to refrain from launching a military operation in Lebanon and is pushing for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
