Kharkiv has risen from the rubble: Rescuers’ courage in response to tragedy

Emergency and rescue operations have been completed in Kharkiv at the site of a nine-storey residential building destroyed by a Russian airstrike. As a result of this horrific act of aggression, three people, including two children, were killed and 36 people were injured, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reports.

Rescue teams from the Kharkiv, Luhansk and Ivano-Frankivsk garrisons of the State Emergency Service, as well as specialists from two Special Rapid Response Centres, were immediately mobilised to respond to the impact. They worked in difficult conditions, quickly and efficiently clearing the rubble to find and rescue victims.

During the rescue operations, psychologists from the SES were on site to help the victims and witnesses of the disaster. In total, 32 people were provided with psychological support to help them cope with the shock and stress they experienced.

This tragedy has once again underlined not only the horrors of war, but also the indomitable spirit of Ukrainian rescuers who work tirelessly on the frontline to protect and save the lives of their fellow citizens. Despite the indescribable pain and losses, the community stands united in the face of the threat, demonstrating strength, courage and compassion.
