On the night of 9-10 October 2024, the Russian occupiers carried out another massive attack on the territory of Ukraine, using attack drones and missiles of various types. According to the press service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, more than 50 airborne weapons were spotted during the attack.

Attacked means

The military radio engineering troops of the Ukrainian Air Force detected and tracked a number of airborne attack vehicles:

  • 2 Iskander-M ballistic missiles (launched from the temporarily occupied Crimea);
  • 1 X-31P guided missile (from the airspace over Crimea);
  • 2 X-59/69 air-to-air guided missiles (also from the airspace of Crimea);
  • 3 S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles (launched from the occupied part of Donetsk region);
  • 62 strike drones (launched from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Kursk regions of Russia).

The Ukrainian Defence Forces, including aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units and mobile fire groups, quickly repelled the attacks.

Air defence successes

In the course of the battle, air defences shot down 41 enemy attack UAVs over several regions of Ukraine: Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Dnipro, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions. Another 14 drones were lost in various regions of Ukraine due to active electronic warfare units, presumably due to malfunctions in the control systems.

Current situation

As of 11:00 a.m., hostilities in the airspace continue. Significant activity of reconnaissance UAVs has been observed in the north and south of Ukraine, and several hostile drones, possibly attack drones, remain in the Ukrainian sky.

The massive attack affected civilian objects and critical infrastructure in Odesa, Poltava and Donetsk regions. Together to victory!
