Nighttime missile strike and drone attack
On the night of 26 October 2024, Ukraine again found itself under a powerful wave of enemy air attacks. Starting at 19:00 on 25 October, Russian troops launched numerous missiles and drones, including Shahed strike UAVs and unidentified drones. This was reported by TimeUkraineIsrael with reference to the data of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted on Telegram.
Thanks to the efforts of the Air Force’s radio engineering troops, 98 enemy airborne attack vehicles were detected and tracked. In particular, it was recorded:
- three Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched from the territory of Crimea;
- two X-59 guided missiles fired from the airspace of the Bryansk region;
- two missiles of unidentified type from the territory of Belgorod region;
- 91 strike UAVs launched from the Kursk and Orel areas.
Ukraine’s defence systems repel air attack
Aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile firing groups of the Air Force, electronic warfare units and the Ukrainian Defence Forces are working in concert to repel the air strike. Despite all efforts, some of the enemy missiles still reached their targets: missile strikes on civilian objects in Sumy and Dnipro regions resulted in tragic civilian casualties.
Confirmed shootdowns of enemy drones
As of 12:00 p.m., a nighttime anti-aircraft battle confirmed the successful destruction of 44 enemy UAVs in the airspace of Kirovohrad, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi and Kursk regions. One of the drones left Ukrainian airspace in the direction of Belarus, while the other 44 drones were lost. Another UAV remains in Ukrainian airspace.
Despite the scale of the attack, air defence systems and mobile firing units demonstrated a high level of readiness, and Ukraine’s air defence remains a reliable shield in protecting civilians from air threats.
