Information about losses

“According to preliminary information, one air target was destroyed in the sky over the water area near the Northern side. There is no information on damage to civilian infrastructure,” Razvozhayev said.

Testimonies of local residents

However, local residents reported an audible explosion after an air raid alert was declared in Sevastopol. An explosion was also reported in the village of Opolzne, located 72 kilometres from Sevastopol. One of the residents of Opolzne commented: “There was an explosion, but it was dull. I think it was far away.”

A blow to Feodosia

The occupation authorities of Feodosia have already reported several explosions on the night of 7 October. As a result of these events, the Feodosia oil transshipment terminal, which is the largest in Crimea in terms of oil transshipment, caught fire. There are two such terminals on the peninsula, with the other in Sevastopol.

Confirmation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the destruction of the offshore oil terminal in occupied Feodosia was the result of the actions of the missile forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in cooperation with other components of the Defence Forces.

Implications for logistics and the population

Security expert Pavlo Lakiychuk, Head of Programmes at the Centre for Global Studies “Strategy XXI”, said in the programme “Suspilne. Studio” programme, said that the restoration of the oil depot in Feodosia could take up to a month and a half. This will have a significant impact on the logistics of Russian troops in southern Ukraine and Crimea, as well as consequences for the civilian population of the peninsula.

Evacuation of residents

After the attack on the oil terminal, the occupying local authorities organised an evacuation for 1,047 residents of the surrounding areas, which demonstrates the seriousness of the situation.
