Over the past two days, Israel has been conducting large-scale strikes against the Syrian regime’s main military facilities, systematically destroying its army, air force and navy. The operation includes strikes on weapons depots, military bases and strategic facilities such as chemical weapons production centres and airports. Dozens of Syrian fighter jets, helicopters and air defence facilities have been destroyed in the attacks. One of the most significant events was the attack on chemical weapons depots in the Barzah area, which led to the spread of a pungent smell in the neighbourhood. The information is provided by Time Ukraine Israel, with reference to Israeli Channel 9.
Israeli tanks advance beyond the Golan Heights
According to reports linked to Hezbollah, Israeli tanks broke through the buffer zone of the Golan Heights and began advancing into southern Syria. In particular, the tanks advanced through the abandoned city of Quneitra and approached Qatana, just 21 kilometres from Damascus. These actions confirm the seriousness of Israel’s intentions to destroy the military capabilities of the Syrian regime, although the IDF has not yet confirmed this information.
Israeli strikes on strategic targets in Syria
The Israeli Air Force carried out one of the largest series of attacks on Syrian military targets in recent years. They destroyed air bases, air defence systems, research institutes and infrastructure used for the production of chemical weapons. Syrian military facilities were destroyed across the country, from Damascus to Latakia and Homs. In particular, airports were attacked, as well as warships of the Syrian navy anchored in the port.
Israeli strikes aim to eliminate weapons and prevent them from reaching rebels
The main goal of the Israeli operation is to destroy huge stockpiles of weapons so that they do not fall into the hands of terrorist organisations or insurgents. It is known that in recent days, Israel has struck 250 targets, of which 200 were attacked in the last 24 hours alone, as part of a large-scale military operation.
The Syrian army and internal disorganisation
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi comments on the situation, pointing out that the Syrian army unexpectedly retreated quickly, which caused some surprise among Assad’s allies. Iran, which has been supporting the Syrian regime for more than 40 years, also expresses doubts about the combat capability of the Syrian troops, noting that this may be one of the reasons for the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
A New Stage in the Syrian Conflict: Geopolitical Implications
US President Joe Biden said that the change of power in Syria could open up new opportunities, but also carries significant geopolitical risks. The United States is actively trying to establish contact with the rebels, using Turkey’s mediation role, which only underscores the strategic importance of the situation for international security.
