On 10 November, a shocking incident took place on the outskirts of the village of Terny in Donetsk Oblast, when Russian soldiers opened fire on a civilian woman walking down the street. The woman was killed in the ruthless attack. This is reported by the news portal TimeUkraineIsrael, citing the official telegram channel of the Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.

This act of violence is yet another horrific example of how the aggressor country, in violation of all international norms, commits atrocities against civilians in the temporarily occupied territories. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine confirmed that a pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war, which was accompanied by premeditated murder, has been launched. At the same time, law enforcement officials declared responsibility for such heinous acts in accordance with international standards.

International reaction: time to act!

At the same time, Ukraine is not ignoring this crime at the international level. Dmytro Lubinets sent official letters to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, calling on these organisations to take immediate action to condemn the aggression and support the victims. The international community must not only record this act of violence, but also take all possible measures to stop further crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Violation of the Geneva Conventions

This is not the first time that the Russian military has violated the basic principles of international humanitarian law. Attacks on civilians are a gross violation of the Geneva Convention, which protects civilians in armed conflicts. Russia, as an occupying power, deliberately and systematically disregards these norms, committing atrocities against civilians on the territory of Ukraine.

A call to the international community

The crimes against humanity committed in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine require a strong response. The international community must take all necessary measures to stop these inhumane acts and ensure that the perpetrators are punished. The international community must make every effort to bring to justice those who commit such acts of violence and do everything to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Concluding remarks

This crime is not only a tragedy for a particular family, but also a heavy blow to the humanitarian values that should guide the entire civilised world. The international community must demonstrate its resolve and support Ukraine in its struggle to restore justice and protect human rights.
