A tragedy in the Green Way
The Russian military committed a horrific war crime by shooting nine Ukrainian soldiers who were captured. This was reported by the news portal TimeUkraineIsrael.

On 10 October, near the village of Zelenyi Shlyakh, the Russian military ruthlessly shot nine Ukrainian servicemen. DeepState analysts, citing sources in the 1st Separate Tank Brigade, note that among the dead were drone operators and their escorts.
An unexpected collision
At the time of the shooting, the Ukrainian soldiers, believing themselves to be safe, unexpectedly encountered the enemy. After a firefight, in which they suffered significant losses, they had to surrender due to a lack of ammunition. However, in violation of international norms of warfare, the Russian military committed an act of horror and outrage by shooting the prisoners.
Situation at the frontline
The situation in the region remains extremely tense. Despite the efforts of the Ukrainian defence forces to stabilise the frontline, it is proving extremely difficult to regain lost ground.
Previous incidents
This incident is not isolated. In early October 2024, in the Pokrovske direction, Russian troops shot 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war in the areas of the villages of Mykolaivka and Sukhyi Yar. The captured soldiers were not only shot, but the wounded were also killed on the spot.
Losses of Ukrainian servicemen
According to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, at least 177 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed in Russian captivity. This is also confirmed by Politico.
A call for accountability
These facts demonstrate the ruthlessness and inhumanity of the actions of the Russian military, which, in defiance of international norms, continue to commit crimes against humanity. Accountability for these atrocities must be ensured so that such tragedies do not happen again.
