Israeli commandos carried out a successful operation in northern Lebanon, capturing a senior Hezbollah member, Imad Amza, some 140 kilometres from the border. The operation was carried out near the town of Batroun, where commandos in motorboats abducted Amza from his hut.
According to Arab media reports, about 25 militants took part in the operation, and its careful planning and execution met UNIFIL standards (Higher Specialised Operations and Training School). The operation was carried out in accordance with international standards, taking into account the necessary security measures.
Lebanese officials confirmed the capture of Imad Amza, noting that he was a captain of civilian and commercial vessels before his arrest. The incident is currently under active investigation by local authorities.
This incident is evidence of continued tensions in the region, where Israel and Hezbollah remain on high alert and mutually distrustful.
