Working together to support humanitarian aid
Against the backdrop of current events in the region, the US administration has expressed concern about the pace of humanitarian supplies to Gaza. However, it is important to note that Israel, despite its adversaries, continues to do everything possible to provide assistance, given the difficult security situation. According to TimeUkraineIsrael, citing Vesty, the volume of humanitarian support remains insufficient, but not due to the inaction of the Israeli authorities.
US stresses importance of humanitarian supplies
On 15 October, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin officially warned Israel of the possibility of sanctions if there is no improvement in the delivery of humanitarian aid. This reminder certainly underscores the importance of humanitarian support for the people of Gaza, but Israel always puts the safety of its citizens and strategic interests first.
Supply issues: challenges inside Gaza
According to recent reports, despite Israel’s enormous efforts, the problem of getting humanitarian aid into Gaza is rooted not only in external pressure but also in internal difficulties. Logistics organisations say that many trucks are unable to reach their destination due to security concerns as well as instability in Gaza itself. According to UN figures, only 836 aid trucks have entered Gaza since the beginning of October, well below the usual figures.
Israel tries to ensure security
Ronen Bar, the head of Israel’s Shabak intelligence agency, stressed the importance of adhering to minimum security standards when delivering humanitarian aid. He stressed that Israel cannot allow humanitarian aid to fall into the hands of terrorist groups that threaten both Israelis and civilians in Gaza.
Israel’s position: responsibility and security
Israel has always been willing to cooperate with international organisations to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza. However, Israel cannot ignore the threats posed by terrorist groups. In this context, it is necessary to find a balance between humanitarian support and security. The Israeli government continues its efforts to ensure the delivery of aid, but only under conditions where security and stability in the region can be guaranteed.
Partnership for peace
While the US criticism concerns important humanitarian issues, Israel continues to act in accordance with its national interests and security. It is important for the international community to recognise the difficult situation Israel is facing and support its efforts to address the humanitarian crisis, as security and humanitarian assistance can and should go hand in hand in these difficult circumstances.
