Repatriation of the bodies of Ukrainian heroes: an important achievement in times of war

As a result of recent repatriation activities, the bodies of 563 fallen Ukrainian defenders who died in combat on the front line have been returned to Ukraine. This process was made possible by the coordinated efforts of numerous state and international agencies, TimeUkraineIsrael reports, based on the materials of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Defenders from the Donetsk and Bakhmut areas

The returned bodies include 320 fallen defenders who gave their lives in the Donetsk sector and 89 fallen heroes who fought in the Bakhmut sector. In addition, 154 bodies were repatriated from morgues in the Russian Federation.

Joint work of state and international bodies

The repatriation process was made possible through effective cooperation between the Coordination Headquarters for Work with Prisoners of War and other state bodies, such as the Joint Centre of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and representatives of the Secretariat for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances. Important partners also include the International Committee of the Red Cross, which provided substantial assistance in this process.

Further work with the remains of the heroes

After the bodies are returned, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will transport them to the relevant state institutions, where law enforcement and forensic experts will identify the fallen heroes. This will allow us to identify all the fallen and ensure proper protection of their rights.

This repatriation was an important step towards fulfilling our duty to every soldier who gave his life for Ukraine. The joint efforts of government agencies, international partners and volunteers continue to bring results, even in such difficult war conditions.
