Israel is currently facing a worrying outbreak of West Nile fever, an acute infectious disease characterized by lymph node swelling, skin rashes, and inflammation of the brain’s membranes, with severe cases leading to meningoencephalitis.

The virus has already claimed seven lives. Among the deceased are six elderly patients over the age of 65, and one individual aged between 45 and 64. So far, there have been 81 reported cases of the disease in the country, with three of the infected being minors under the age of 18.

A particularly concerning case involves a nine-year-old girl from northern Tel Aviv. Initially hospitalized at the Ichilov Hospital, she has fortunately been discharged and is now receiving outpatient treatment at home.

Israel’s Ministry of Health is raising the alarm and strongly advising citizens to take all necessary precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites, which are the primary vectors of the virus. This disease spares no one, so it is crucial to remain vigilant and safeguard both yourself and your loved ones.
