In the German city of Elmshorn (Schleswig-Holstein), 17-year-old Emin B. was detained on suspicion of preparing a large-scale terrorist act. According to investigators, the teenager planned to commit a terrorist attack using a truck to drive into a crowd of people on Christmas Eve. In addition, Emin B. discussed with his handlers the manufacture of explosive devices and possible attacks on diplomatic institutions. This was reported by the news portal Time Ukraine Israel, citing BILD sources.

“We managed to prevent a catastrophe that could have led to numerous casualties,” said representatives of the German prosecutor’s office.

The detention was preceded by a lengthy monitoring of the suspect. The US intelligence services passed on information to German law enforcement that Emin B. was in chat rooms associated with the ISIS terrorist group. In these chats, he discussed his intentions to carry out attacks, in particular, he mentioned plans to attack “infidels”.

German investigators confirmed that the teenager had purchased components for the manufacture of explosive devices and was in contact with handlers from Iraq and Morocco. In addition to this, Emin B. even took several driving lessons to be ready to drive a truck to carry out his attack.

Also in Germany, Belal R., who is considered an accomplice in the crime in progress, was detained. During searches in his apartment, police seized fuel, pyrotechnics and electronic devices that were likely to be used to create explosive devices.

This case is a clear indication of how effective international cooperation and rapid response by law enforcement agencies can prevent a tragedy that could have had terrible consequences.
