Analysts: Trump can use a strong Ukraine to reach peace deal

Дональд Трамп

A meaningful peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia is only possible if Ukraine is supported in its confrontation. Western analysts believe that Donald Trump, potentially returning to the presidency, will have a better chance of forcing Russia to negotiate if he ensures Ukraine’s position of strength. This was reported by Business Insider.

Trump’s approach to the war in Ukraine

Trump emphasises that ending the war in Ukraine will be his priority. He has already appointed a special envoy on this issue, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, who has previously suggested that the occupied Ukrainian territories be handed over to Russia.

Risks of a weak deal

European military and political leaders have warned that a peace deal that grants Russia too many concessions could only fuel future conflicts. Instead, a lasting peace is only possible if Ukraine receives all the resources it needs to negotiate from a position of strength and deter Russian aggression.

The benefits of a strong Ukraine for Trump

Analysts emphasise that the threat to provide Ukraine with the assistance it needs to regain its territories and even threaten Russian territory could put additional pressure on the Kremlin. The war is already losing popularity among Russians, and further losses may force the Russian president to seek compromises.

Trump, known for his pragmatism, has previously stated that his administration will focus on ending the war. However, how he will implement this approach remains an open question.
