On 13 November, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on Israel to step up its humanitarian efforts by organising “real and lasting pauses” in the fighting in the Gaza Strip, which is necessary for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected areas, TimeUkraineIsrael reports, citing Cursorinfo. According to Blinken, Israel has already implemented a significant part of the US recommendations, but there are three main issues that need to be addressed immediately.
Blinken noted that Israel has taken 12 of the 15 steps recommended by the United States to stabilise the situation and improve conditions for the civilian population. At the same time, he stressed the importance of additional measures, among which the first priority is to ensure prolonged pauses in the fighting in large areas of Gaza. The Secretary of State stressed that these pauses are critical to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches people in need in a timely manner.
Two other issues that need to be addressed immediately are the access of commercial trucks to Palestinian territories and the cancellation of evacuation orders that are causing additional hardship to local residents. Blinken stressed that, in addition to stopping the fighting, it is time to fully implement the proposed humanitarian measures to ensure stability and peace in the region.
The Biden administration emphasises that the continuation of these humanitarian steps can ensure a more lasting peace and significantly reduce humanitarian losses among the civilian population, while pauses in the fighting will promote stability and create conditions for negotiations.
