An armed man opened fire on traffic police in Murmansk, Russia, shooting from the roof of a 14-storey building. The incident occurred late on Sunday evening, The Moscow Times reported, citing local authorities.
Eyewitnesses captured on video the moment of the shooting in a residential neighbourhood and the silhouette of an armed attacker on the roof. The governor of the Murmansk region, Andrey Chibis, urged residents to be careful and refrain from filming while the special operation is underway.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, no one was injured in the incident. During the assault on the roof, the attacker was “neutralised”, law enforcement officials said. The Russian National Guard published footage of the preparation of the operation to detain the shooter.
Later, Russian state media reported that the attacker was in critical condition. He has been identified as Vladislav Zavgorodny, an employee of the rescue service that provides assistance to fishing vessels. The information about him was disclosed by the state-run TASS news agency, citing sources in the security forces.
