Austria is increasing its support for the Ukrainian people by allocating another €8 million in humanitarian aid. This initiative is part of the country’s response to the 1000th day of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

“Putin and his henchmen bear full responsibility for the suffering they have caused, and this must not go unpunished. Austria has stood firmly on the side of the Ukrainian people from day one,” the statement said.

The vast majority of the funds – about €5 million – will be used for a humanitarian demining project implemented by the UN World Food Programme (WFP). This project aims to restore agricultural production in Ukraine.

The remaining €3 million will go to organisations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The funds will be used to support humanitarian initiatives in Ukraine and Moldova, which has provided shelter to a significant number of Ukrainian refugees.

This financial assistance is yet another sign of Austrian solidarity in the face of the third winter season of the war.
