In his first interview after the end of his presidential term, 82-year-old Joe Biden condemned Donald Trump for pressuring Ukraine to cede territory to Russia. Speaking to BBC Radio 4, he compared it to the appeasement policy of Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

“If someone thinks that Putin will stop if you give him something, it’s just stupid,” Biden said, adding that the Russian president is convinced: “Ukraine is part of Russia.

Biden warned that such a policy harms Europe’s trust in the United States: “European leaders are already asking themselves, ‘Can we rely on America anymore? Of particular concern is the possible resurgence of the Trump administration, which, according to Biden, wants to “annex Canada and buy Greenland”.

Biden also recalled that the United States, under his leadership, provided Ukraine with everything it needed to defend its independence, including weapons and financial support.

Against the backdrop of Vice President J.D. Vance’s statements about “freezing the front line,” Biden said: “I don’t understand how you can allow a bandit to seize land and think that will stop his appetite.”
