U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that the United States and NATO are ready to continue to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. He paid special attention to the need to counteract the Kremlin’s attempts to use the winter period as a means of pressure on Ukrainians. This was reported by Time Ukraine Israel, citing Ukrinform.

NATO and US resolve

Speaking alongside NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the Alliance’s ministerial meeting in Brussels, Blinken stressed that Western partners will continue to increase resources, attract new members and work to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities. He noted:

“We remain united in our goal to provide Ukraine with everything it needs to defend itself against Russian aggression and overcome challenges, including attacks on its energy infrastructure.”

Blinken stressed that the unfolding situation as a result of Russia’s actions only strengthens NATO and the United States’ resolve. Particular emphasis was placed on supporting Ukraine’s energy system, which is critical to the survival of millions of citizens in the winter.

Using winter as a weapon

The US Secretary of State pointed out that Russia is once again trying to use winter as a weapon. Putin is seeking to leave Ukrainians without heat and electricity, creating conditions that are intended to undermine the nation’s spirit and force it to surrender.

“We will not allow this to happen. Together with our partners, we will ensure that Ukrainians can get through this winter with dignity and safety,” said Blinken.

The strategic importance of the meeting in Brussels

According to Blinken, the NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels is extremely important for determining the strategy for the next year. The main topics of discussion will be further strengthening the Alliance, expanding its membership and coordinating efforts to support Ukraine.

“This is a vital moment when we need to make sure that the Alliance is ready to respond to threats next year,” the US diplomat said.

Priority of international security

Before the visit to Brussels, the US State Department stressed that support for Ukraine remains a key international security issue. By its actions, the United States demonstrates not only its determination but also its readiness to unite its allies to address the global challenges posed by the Kremlin’s aggressive policy.
