German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has expressed her strong condemnation of China’s military and economic support for Russia, which will be one of the main issues of her visit to Beijing. This is reported by the news portal Time Ukraine Israel, citing information from Holosameryky.
China and its responsibility on the world stage
Speaking to journalists, Baerbock stressed that instead of fulfilling its responsibilities as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and actively working to maintain peace, China chooses to cooperate with Russia, which violates Europe’s fundamental interests. The Minister stressed that Germany cannot ignore such actions in its relations with Beijing.
“China must take responsibility for peace and stability in the world, but its support for Russia in the current conflict is directly contrary to this,” Burbank said.
China’s role in the war in Ukraine
Although China has not officially declared its support for Russia in the war, evidence suggests that it is supplying dual-use goods such as microelectronics and drone parts, which contributes to the development of Russia’s military infrastructure. Senior NATO officials confirm that Beijing is actively providing Russia with the necessary components for weapons and military equipment, which undoubtedly affects the course of the conflict.
“China has become an important factor in fuelling Russia’s military machine, supplying components for its weapons, equipment and essential materials,” said Boris Ruge, NATO’s acting Deputy Chief of Defence.
International reaction and sanctions pressure
Recently, the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven countries recognised Chinese efforts to rebuild Russia’s defence industry as inimical to international stability. They expressed their concern over such cooperation and called for stronger sanctions against China.
Against the backdrop of such statements, the European Union is actively preparing to introduce another sanctions package that will include restrictions on China. It is expected that the 15th sanctions package will have a significant impact on economic cooperation between the EU and China, in particular in the supply of dual-use goods used for military purposes.
The significance of Burbank’s visit
The visit of the German Foreign Minister to Beijing in the near future will be an important stage in negotiations on further steps in the EU and NATO’s policy towards China. It is expected that Baerbock will put on the agenda the issue of sanctions and further strategy of cooperation with China, given its active involvement in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
In her statement, Annalena Baerbock made it clear that Germany cannot abstract itself from the facts that China is supporting Russia in the ongoing war. This is not only a political issue, but also a security one, reflecting the great geopolitical challenges faced by world leaders in the context of the war in Ukraine. Burbank’s visit will be an important step towards a clearer international strategy that could change the balance of power in world politics.
