China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not comment on military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK, calling it “bilateral affairs of sovereign states”.
At a briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that he was not aware of any information on whether Russia was transferring modern technologies to North Korea or helping to create the production of Shahed drones, as some Western sources suspect, Ukrinform reports.
When asked by an Ukrinform correspondent about the risks to stability on the Korean Peninsula due to the possible expansion of military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK, the Chinese diplomat replied:
“This is a matter of bilateral interaction between sovereign states, and China will not interfere in or comment on these matters.”
Lin Jian confirmed that Beijing’s position on the “Ukrainian crisis” and the situation on the Korean Peninsula remains unchanged:
- China supports negotiations and diplomacy,
- does not recognise the aggressor in Russia’s war against Ukraine,
- calls on “all sides” to exercise restraint.
At the same time, Beijing continues to provide economic and diplomatic support to Moscow, which, as Ukrinform notes, has actually allowed the Putin regime to avoid collapse in the face of sanctions and a protracted war.
