For the first time in history, China’s navy has deployed all three of its aircraft carriers at once, raising serious concerns, particularly for Taiwan. According to The Telegraph on Tuesday, September 24, this significant event took place over the weekend.
The participating carriers include the former Soviet carrier Liaoning, its domestically produced sister ship Shandong, and China’s newest and largest aircraft carrier Fujian. The Telegraph emphasized that this move is “ominous” for Taiwan, especially given the current tensions between Beijing and Taipei.
According to the report, Fujian was undergoing tests in the Yellow Sea, while Shandong was stationed in the South China Sea, west of Taiwan, accompanied by an escort fleet. Liaoning was deployed in the Philippine Sea to the east of the island.
Although Fujian is not yet fully operational, its future deployment will make China the second-largest aircraft carrier power in the world, surpassing the Royal Navy and the Indian Navy. However, China’s carriers still lag behind the U.S. fleet in terms of size and capabilities.
