US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), headed by entrepreneur Elon Musk, has referred a number of cases to the US Department of Justice on suspicion of large-scale fraud in government agencies. He said this in an interview with ABC.

According to Trump, the DOGE found “vast amounts of waste, abuse and fraud” in the federal government. Despite criticism for cutting funding for social and healthcare programmes, the president defends the department’s actions, stressing its effectiveness:

“We found a lot of fraud. There was fraud going on, and we put an end to it… DOGE saved the country billions,” Trump said.

He also confirmed that the cases had been transferred to the Ministry of Justice:

“Were there? Yes, there were. Of course, they were,” the president replied to the journalist’s question.

Elon Musk, who headed up DOGE with the aim of eradicating waste and increasing transparency, has not yet commented on the situation.
