“It’s snowing hard here. But don’t worry, I’ll survive, you know,” were the last words that 22-year-old YouTuber Storm De Boyle sent to his grandmother before dying in a powerful storm in Sweden. The incident took place in the Lapland region when the man was caught in a deadly blizzard during his expedition in northern Sweden. This tragic event was reported by Time Ukraine Israel, citing Metro.
The last trip to the north
Storm De Boyle, a Belgian author and popular YouTube vlogger, was known for his channel StormOutdoorsy, where he shared videos of his adventures in Northern Europe. They were very popular among wildlife enthusiasts. He was on his next hike in northern Sweden when he got caught in a deadly storm. His mother, Elisabeth Rademaker, said that he had gone on an expedition to Jokkmokk, a remote region where he spent most of the year travelling.
On the fateful day, Storm is known to have sent a video to his friend showing strong winds whipping around his tent. The Belgian news outlet 7sur7 also reported that at around 2am on 29 October, he called Swedish emergency services to send a distress call. He said he was injured and needed medical attention.
A terrible death in Lapland
Despite his efforts to return to his vehicle, which was located nine miles from his tent, Storm was unable to reach safety. His mother later recalled: “That night the trees were uprooted. His tent may have been blown down too, and he had no choice but to walk.” In temperatures of -6°C, and in some places even -18°C due to the storm, this was fatal for Storm. His feet and legs were frozen, and his body was found only in the morning when a rescue operation was organised.
His death was reported only a day after the police confirmed that his body had been found on one of the routes between the two points. His mother described how the local officer first called to say that there was a problem in Sweden. The hope that he would be found alive never materialised.
Memories of Storm
Storm was a man who preferred solitude. His father said: “He found it difficult to communicate with people and liked to be alone. That’s why he went on these adventures, often travelling in his little Peugeot 307.” He added that now his videos have become a priceless legacy for the family, but the most precious thing would be to get back the camera that stored the images of his last trip.
Elizabeth shared her memories of her son, noting that Storm had learnt to survive in extreme conditions by watching numerous YouTube videos similar to those he posted himself. This tragic story will live on as another reminder of the dangers that people can face when seeking adventure in remote parts of the world.
The results of the tragedy
Storm De Boyle’s death has come as a heavy blow to his family and the fans of his channel. His videos are a legacy that will live on in the memory of many, but the tragedy reminds us of the risks that can lurk in the wild, where even the best prepared can fall victim to the elements.
