North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered the country’s military-industrial complex to urgently increase production of a new type of powerful artillery shells adapted to the conditions of modern warfare. This was reported by the state news agency KCNA.

During his visit to one of the leading enterprises of the military-industrial complex, whose name was not disclosed, Kim inspected the modernised production facilities and ordered to expand capacity and automate production to meet “national defence requirements”.

“We need to continuously increase the level of automation and streamline processes. We need to expand production of new shells on a large scale,” Kim said.

Experts believe that this is due to an increase in the supply of ammunition to Russia. According to the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, up to 70% of artillery shells used by Russia in the war against Ukraine come from the DPRK. Western intelligence confirms the increased activity of the North Korean military-industrial complex after intensive contacts with the Kremlin.

Last month, Kim already inspected another munitions factory, insisting on building up the army’s combat power – in response to what is likely to be external demands.
