Independent candidate Nicușor Dan wins the second round of the presidential election in Romania, beating his opponent Gheorghe Simion of the far-right AUR party. This is evidenced by the preliminary results of two reputable exit polls, Hotnews reports.
Survey data
According to the Avangarde news agency, as of 19:00, Nicuşor Dan had won 54.9% of the vote, and Gheorghe Simion had 45.1%. The results were announced at 21:00, after the polls closed in Romania.
In parallel, the CURS agency provided similar data:
- Nikushor Dan – 54.1%.
- Géré Simion – 45.9%.
Both surveys cover only voting within Romania, excluding votes from abroad.
No foreign voices
These results do not include the votes of the Romanian diaspora, which traditionally demonstrates high political activity and may influence the final result. The final results will be announced by the Romanian Central Election Commission after all ballots, including those from international polling stations, have been counted
Nicuşor Dan is an independent candidate, former mayor of Bucharest and technocrat who positions himself as an alternative to traditional political forces. His opponent is Gheorghe Simion, leader of the far-right AUR party, known for his nationalist rhetoric.
The second half of the campaign was marked by a fierce confrontation between the moderate centre and right-wing radicalism, which became the main watershed in the Romanian voters’ choice.
