American entrepreneur and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has announced the official relocation of the company’s headquarters from California to the newly created city of Starbase in Texas. Musk made the announcement on the X social network on Friday, 13 December.
A new stage for SpaceX
The relocation of the headquarters is part of the company’s larger strategy to expand SpaceX’s infrastructure in Texas. Starbase, which is located near the company’s space complex in Boca Chica, already plays a key role in testing and launching the Starship rocket.
“Starbase will become a centre for the development of new technologies and platforms for space exploration,” Musk said.
Reasons for the transfer
Texas offers a favourable business environment, including lower taxes and a favourable regulatory environment. In addition, the region is strategically important for SpaceX launches. Musk has previously moved the headquarters of his other company, Tesla, to Texas for similar reasons.
The city of the future: Starbase
Starbase City is part of Musk’s ambitious project to create an innovative community around space exploration. It involves the expansion of SpaceX’s production and research facilities, as well as the development of local infrastructure.
This move is another confirmation of Musk’s desire to make Texas the centre of his space empire and to realise his ambitions to colonise Mars.
