On Monday, EU foreign ministers adopted a new package of sanctions against Iran over the detention of EU citizens, which Brussels considers to be state hostage-taking.
They were sanctioned:
- 7 individuals, including the director of Tehran’s Evin prison;
- several judges and employees of the Iranian judiciary;
- two organisations, including the main prison in Shiraz.
The sanctions include an asset freeze and a ban on entry to the EU.
